The Folk Machine White Light 2024 — and you can’t get much fresher than that — carries a broad California designation. It’s a unique blend of 30% tocai friulano grapes, 23% albariño, 21% verdelho, 21% vermentino and 5% sauvignon blanc, from certified organic vineyards. Fermentation is by native yeasts; the wine sees no oak. Suitable for vegans.
The color is pale straw-gold with a faint green tinge; this is very aromatic, blooming with notes of jasmine and honeysuckle, acacia and camellia; scents of lime peel, lychee and tangerine dominate the nose and segue seamlessly to the palate; a boost of bright acidity buoys the wine through a lovely, lithe texture that gathers structure, from mid-point back, from crushed gravel and seashell; the meadowy finish is appropriately rounded by a swath of dried herbs, spiced pear and a bit of bracing salinity. 12.3 percent alcohol. Totally charming and drinkable. Very Good+. About $18, representing Excellent Value.
