Winemaker Russell Joyce didn’t make a lot of his Joyce Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2023, Arroyo Seco. Only 375 cases. I’m amazed, then, that I was able to buy three bottles at a retail store in Memphis. If you find it at retail, grab a few bottles. It’s a great sauvignon blanc.
Made from organic grapes, foot-trod and fermented with native yeasts and aged four months on the lees in stainless steel, the wine displays a pale straw-gold hue and scintillating aromas of celery leaf and fresh thyme, lime peel, lemongrass and grapefruit, fennel seed and an array of meadow flowers; pert and tart acidity plows a furrow on the palate, lending liveliness and energy to juicy peach and pear flavors highlighted by a tinge of citrus; a tide of limestone minerality flows from mid-palate back through the elegant finish, ending with a fillip of grapefruit rind and sea-salt. 12.5% alcohol. We drank this saugivnon blanc with a variety of vegetarian and seafood dishes. Consume over the next year. Excellent. About $23.
