The State Street label is a second wine for Jaffurs Wine Cellars, the syrah and other Rhone grapes specialist in Santa Barbara County. While the winery’s single-vineyard efforts tend toward the high end in cost, the State Street wines are moderately and fairly priced.
The State Street Pinot Noir 2023, Central Coast, displays a totally transparent cherry-magenta hue and beguiling aromas of cranberries and raspberries, rose petals and violets, with subdued hints of briers and brambles and gently baked black plums; the whole effect is light, breezy, luminous, drinkable; spiced plum and cherry aspects flourish on the palate, animated by bright acidity and a slightly darker turn toward graphite minerality on the finish. 13.7% alcohol. Delightful; give it a bit of a chill before serving. Very Good+. About $22, representing Excellent Value.
