Discussion recently in the wine writing sphere has turned to the essential question — Why do people drink wine, or, to generalize, alcohol beverages of any sort? Since my and your particular interest is wine, I offer here a relatively ancient post, from the first days of BiggerThanYourHead, that, if it does not explain, at least offers an example of the emotional tenor that we bring to the culture, the tradition, the pure pleasure of drinking wine.
