Buying wine from grocery stores and big-box stores is fraught with hazards. Such places tend to carry a small range of high-end chardonnays and cabernet sauvignons that display recognizable names — “See, we really do sell good wine!” — but the preponderance of products tends to be second labels, bulk wines and wines made in enormous quantities.
