Halter Ranch Vineyard Estate was founded in 1996 in Paso Robles by Swiss entrepreneur, conservationist and philanthropist Hansjörg Wyss and named in honor of his mother Alice Halter. Twenty grape varieties are planted on 200 acres of vineyards certified organic by the California Certified Organic Farmers organization. The property’s olive groves and walnut orchards are also certified organic. Ninety percent of the estate’s 2,700 acres are left to wildlife preservation. The winery facility itself, opened in 2011, employs a multi-level, gravity-flow system. Winemaker is Kevin Sass.
