David Ramey is much celebrated for his adroitness at the altar of the chardonnay grape, as it draws sustenance from the soils of Sonoma County, particularly from the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast. I would not deny him that thanks and praise. This trio of currently released chardonnays — one from Sonoma Coast, two from Russian River — further cement in my mind Ramey’s essential mastery of the art, craft, experience and intuition required to produce great wines.
