Lucas & Lewellen Vineyards: Three Reds
Might as well continue the red thread.
Lucas & Lewellen sounds like a posh tailor that constructs bespoke suits for English gentlemen. Actually, it’s a winery in Santa Barbara County, founded by Louis Lucas, a pioneer in Santa Maria Valley with the old Tepusquet* winery, and the late Superior Court Judge Royce Lewellen. Grapes for this mixed bag of a trio under review all derived from estate vineyards and represent AVAs with different soil and climatic situations. Winemaker since 2007 has been Megan McGrath Gates.
