The grapes for the Frog’s Leap Shale and Stone Chardonnay 2022, derive from the Truchard Vineyard, planted in the Carneros-Napa Valley district in 1979. The vineyard is farmed organically. The wine’s “sub-title” lends some idea of the notion behind it — a chardonnay that emphasizes the crisp, steely, stony aspect rather than anything buttery, overtly spicy and opulent. From those criteria, the wine is a success.
