Charlie Barra (1926-2019) planted vines in Mendocino's Redwood Valley in 1955. After years of selling grapes to other wineries — and acquiring other vineyards — the family started making wine in 1997, under the Barra of Mendocino label. There’s a second label, Girasole, of whose pinot blanc I am very fond. The forward-thinking Barra made all his vineyards organic in 1989. All the wines are certified organic and vegan-friendly. Winemaker is Randy Meyer.
