This group of 10 wines represents local purchases over the past few weeks. The prices, as you see, are very attractive. Why should I buy wines to write about? Because the flow of wine samples for review to my threshold has diminished drastically since the pandemic. I think major factors affecting this phenomenon are the decrease in alcoholic beverage consumption by Millennials and Gen Zers and a general attitude of distrust toward alcohol as a social and cultural signifier. These occurrences have, inevitably, had an effect on winery and importer marketing and public relations, though I think the reaction to circle the wagons rather than reaching out persuasively is wrongheaded.
